Justice is one of the basic qualities sought in hadith narrators. It expresses the narrator's being a Muslim, wise and mature, and his religious and moral maturity. There are two methods in determining this quality: fame and tazkiye. While fame means that the narrator is known for his justice, ta'zkiya means that he is amended by two counterparts. According to another method expressed by Ibn Abdilber (d. 463/1071), every scholar who is known for his meticulousness in the science of hadith is thought to be just, and justice is always attempted until evidence emerges showing that his situation has been rejected or that he is greatly mistaken. At this point, Ibn Abdilber bases himself on a marfu narration narrated by many companions. "The just people of every generation carry this knowledge. They protect this knowledge against the distortions of the extremists, the interpretations of the ignorant, and the wrong thoughts of the people of falsehood." This hadith was not only considered as evidence but also seriously criticized by some scholars other than Ibn Abdilber. In this study, the accessible sources and texts of the said hadith will be discussed and its authenticity and whether it is suitable for evidence will be tried to be revealed.
