Shopping malls are among the important social and consumption places of modern life, located in almost every city in Turkey, preferred by individuals and crowded with crowds. These places have become living centers by hosting many elements of modern life and centers of attraction by offering many blessings of the modern world to consumers. These spaces, which present the elements of modern life as a complex whole, have the power to direct and influence individuals and societies and have effective roles in individuals' preferences and decision-making processes. Shopping malls, which change individuals' social worlds, interpersonal relationships, and the meanings they attach to many concepts such as consumption, needs, status, identity, leisure, entertainment, time and space, produce different types of cultural forms, communal forms, symbolic codes and universes of meaning. Due to the crowds in these places, their qualities and social depth, the need for scientific research and the opportunity to make a scientific analysis regarding social life arise. The problem of this research, based on the position and roles of these places in today's social life, is what kind of social, symbolic, imaginary and metaphorical meanings consumers attribute to these places. The aim of this study is to discover the different meanings that individuals who go to shopping malls attribute to this center and to reveal the essence of the meaning of the experiences that individuals experience in these places with a phenomenological sociological approach. This study aims to understand the shopping malls, which are increasing in number in cities in Turkey and have an important social position in urban life, from the consumer discourse. The research also aims to present a social scientific approach to today's consumer societies through shopping malls. Since shopping malls are places that can be read through many parameters, when looking at the literature, various studies on shopping malls can be found in many fields. In studies conducted in the field of sociology regarding shopping malls, these places are; It is considered as public space, urban space, leisure space, identity formation space and consumption space. However, although there are various studies on the consumption-shopping mall relationship related to our research, no research has been found in the literature that directly examines the meanings that shopping mall users attach to these places with a phenomenological pattern. Our study is unique as it is the first study in the field of sociology of religion. Our research is important in that it systematically reveals the meanings that consumers attribute to shopping malls, that it does so directly from the consumers' point of view, that it contributes to both the social reality of consumption and the social scientific reality of today's societies, that it fills the gap in the fields of sociology and sociology of religion, and that it guides new research. In accordance with the problem situation and purpose of the research, the qualitative method was chosen as the research method, and the phenomenological research pattern was chosen as the design of the research. Through the phenomenological pattern, it has been tried to understand what meanings consumers attribute to shopping malls and how they interpret their experiences in the space, from the consumers' own perspectives. In the research, in-depth interviews based on a semi-structured interview form were conducted with 20 participants with different socio-demographic characteristics, selected through the maximum diversity sample of the study group. The data was subjected to content analysis based on the stages of the phenomenological analysis technique. The interviews were first transcribed, then read and reviewed several times, and then parsed into meaning units within the framework of the focal phenomenon. The coded data were brought together first within the framework of categories and then within the framework of common themes, focusing on the common essence. Afterwards, the meaning units were related and compared, and after synthesizing them to present a general interpretation of the phenomenon, the data were tried to be read within the framework of the phenomenological sociological context. As a result of the research, it was seen that shopping malls were interpreted in different contexts and the themes reached were presented under two basic themes as sections from the "panorama of consumption" and "panorama of hierophany".
