Notes
Our knowledge about the Neolithic Period in the Upper Tigris Basin has been increasing thanks to the archaeological excavations carried out in recent years. Boncuklu Tarla settlement, located within the borders of Ilısu Village, which gave its name to the Ilısu Dam in Dargeçit District of Mardin Province, provides important information about the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period architecture of the Upper Tigris Basin. The Public Building identified in the Boncuklu Tarla East Area and the buildings around it provide important information about both residential and public architecture and the village-space organizations of the period. Especially the public building belonging to layer 4b and the residences around the building are of particular importance for the examination of the village-space organizations of the period.
