Notes The 16th century was a century when the rivalry between the Ottomans and Spain in the Mediterranean reached its peak. This struggle, which took place in the most mature periods of both empires, changed the balances in the Mediterranean and became a place where both elements claimed to be a superpower due to its geopolitical importance. Undoubtedly, the most important factor in this lies in their desire to have a say in the Mediterranean trade. Indeed, due to its geopolitical location, the Mediterranean has been a dream destination for many states since ancient times. In this conflict between the two states, sometimes the Ottomans won, and sometimes the Spanish won, especially with the support of the crusade they received from the pope. The 16th century was a century in which the rivalry between the Ottomans and Spain in the Mediterranean reached its peak.
