Notes
Contract theories tend to hypothetically derive the political bond – and its phenomenon of the State as identified with a particular sphere of power. Accordingly, the political bond is developed through the idea of "natural law" discovered through hypothetical reasoning and the concept of a State limited by it. The main criticisms of this theoretical consideration are the assumptions suggested by political anthropology. Political anthropology argues that the political bond cannot be definitively separated from the state of nature, and therefore there are certain continuities, similarities and transitions between the "stateless state" (state of nature) and the "state state" (civil-political society). This article aims to read political anthropology's criticisms of contract theories through Ibn Khaldun's contributions. In his work called Muqaddimah, Ibn Khaldun analyzes the political bond with a perspective based on political anthropology and derives the state phenomenon from this bond.
