| Notes | The Kalathos marble column capital, whose surface is decorated with two rows of acanthus motifs, dates back to the 6th century. There are acanthus leaves with closed leaves in the middle section. The leaf motifs in the upper row support the volutes with their long ends, and there is a gap between the cap and the echinus section decorated with laurel leaves. There are palmettes on the echinus. --- The marble column capital with two rows of acanthus motifs on the surface of the kalathos is dated to the 6th century. The middle section features acanthus motifs with closed leaves. The leaf motifs on the upper row support the volutes, and there is a space between this register and the echinus section, which is decorated with laurel leaves. The echinus is further decorated with palmettes. |
