fol.1b.1: In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
fol.1b.1: Praise be to God who has guided us to this, and we would not have been guided had God Almighty not guided us from a God who is free from the blemishes of imperfection and unique in the attributes of perfection, without anyone else. Our master and prophet Muhammad is His servant and messenger, the most honorable prophet whom God sent. May the peace and blessings of God be upon our master Muhammad, the God of the pures, his chosen and good companions, and all the other prophets and messengers, may peace and blessings be upon him until the Day of Judgment.
fol.1b.8: (And after) For the greatest, highest, most powerful and exalted science is the science of the foundations of religion, which is called the science of theology, searching for the Creator’s essence and the attributes of majesty and honor, and among those in which he composed the magnificent poems known as the doctrine of Al-Shaybani. May God cover him with His mercy and make him dwell in His spacious Paradise, in which he collected the most precious things and composed the unique pearls, and he took great care in preserving them, gathering among the most eminent people and becoming famous among them. The knowledge of fire was known, and they needed an explanation that would explain its entirety, solve its mystery, and clarify its problem. So those who I cannot disagree with called me to that, so after istikharah, I wrote an explanation, intending to clarify it without dictation and to shorten the phrase without prejudice. And since this explanation was, as appeared to us, the first explanation he composed on it, while being faithful to solving its purposes and highlighting the hidden meanings in it, it is appropriate to be called the Splendid of Meanings in an explanation. Al-Shaybani’s Creed - fol.13a.14: The majority of the Salaf were of the view that faith is belief with the heart, affirmation with the tongue, and acting on the pillars. This doctrine was transmitted from Al-Shafi’i, may God be pleased with him, and Al-Nazim, may God Almighty have mercy on him, referred to affirmation with the tongue.
