Sample Text First, Manfred Ullmann examines and determines the syntax and semantics of three Arabic particles using extensive evidence from classical literature. Another discussion focuses on the desired perfect in the postscript of conditional structures. The author then presents thoughts on the special methodology with which fragmentary ancient Arabic poems should be edited. The motif-historical studies follow on from earlier studies that Thomas Bauer had carried out on the onager and Manfred Ullmann himself had carried out on the wolf. In the final chapter, 140 short poems and epigrams are edited and translated, in which the scooping wheels that are still in use in Syria and Mesopotamia are described - a particularly attractive chapter of ekphrastic literature. The contents of the volume are well accessible thanks to extensive indexes in which personal names and words are recorded.
