Notes
This paper is concerned with studying a unique manuscript containing (361) pages that talks about one type of weapon, the Arabic bow. Its title is (Benefit and Insight for Every Archer or Mahir) and is attributed to a man who may be from the Maghreb or Andalusia, called Abdullah bin Maimun, who died around (700 AH). The importance of this manuscript lies in the accuracy of the topics it contains regarding archery. The author explains in detail the virtues of the Arabic bow, its types, and the recommended ones. He details its parts, talks about the imams of archers, and the most important exercises that must be trained in. He devotes chapters to shooting salt, and other chapters to arrows, blades, feathers, strings, etc., etc. The manuscript best reflects the tremendous theoretical and scientific development of the art of weapon making in the Islamic world. Therefore, it was an important reference for several centuries. It received the attention of the Ottomans and remained among the approved sources until the beginning of the nineteenth century AD.
