Notes This study deals with two Ottoman cannons kept by the Army Museum in Paris. They were published for the first time and no one had studied or analyzed them before, despite their distinction and uniqueness in terms of decorations and inscriptions executed on them, in addition to their connection to important historical events. They are from the Ottoman era and were manufactured in Algeria and have Arabic inscriptions executed on them. The two cannons were among the cannons that were transported to the French city of Toulon in 1832 AD. They were then transferred to the Artillery Museum, and from there to the Army Museum in Paris, where they are still located. The two cannons are of the same style and are completely covered with floral designs, a phenomenon not often repeated on Ottoman cannons. The research paper was able to correct the date of the two cannons, as they were recorded in the museum’s records and display cards as dating back to the year 985 AH/1577 AD, but the correct date for them is the beginning of the month of Ramadan in the year 989 AH/1581 AD. The study indicated that the two cannons were made in one workshop by one maker. This research paper aims to study and analyze a distinctive model of Ottoman cannons during the period of the tenth century AH/sixteenth century AD, as well as pointing out the distinctive Algerian role in the manufacture of military cannons, with an explanation of the decorative elements that were used to decorate the cannons during that era. These two cannons were studied through two axes, the first descriptive covering a complete description of the two cannons and the decorations and written texts executed on them, and the second analytical of the form. Function, methods of industry and decoration.
