Notes
The research entitled (A Study of the Journey of “Sensual Wine in the Sacred Journey” by Sheikh Mustafa al-Bakri al-Siddiqi 1099-1162 AH/1688-1749 AD) dealt with a translation of one of the most important poles of Sufism in the Ottoman era in the Levant, namely Sheikh Mustafa al-Bakri al-Siddiqi, who was one of the most important sheikhs of the Khalutiyya order. In addition to studying his journey, “The Sensual Wine in the Holy Journey,” which he wrote down after his first visit to Jerusalem in the year 1122/1710. The research aimed to shed light on Al-Siddiqi’s behavior and his Sufi experience through his journey that he recorded, because it gives an honest picture of the Sufism of scholars at that stage, in addition to focusing on the geographical route that Al-Siddiqi and his companions took, while mentioning some of the economic and political information that he provided scattered throughout his speech by following a descriptive, inductive approach in presenting the information that was received to serve the idea and objectives of the research. The research aimed to reach a number of results, such as knowing the travel route that caravans took between Damascus and Jerusalem in the middle of the Ottoman era, the most important saints and righteous people whom the Sufis were interested in visiting and seeking blessings from, the concept of Sufi seclusion among the Khaluti Sufis, the relationship of the sheikh and the disciple, the Sufism of the poor among the common people, and the most important classifications (compositions) that Al-Siddiqi compiled during his stay in Jerusalem.
