Notes The study deals with one of the important topics in Islamic photography and Ottoman manuscripts, which is the depictions of genealogical manuscripts. In which lineage is proven and documented from the origins to the branches, it has historical importance as it is a reliable record in history, documentation, and the study of antiquities, in addition to its religious importance, as it documents the lineage of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the family of the Prophet, peace be upon them, and the lineage of the Arab tribes, and it is necessary to know them in order to clarify some legal matters such as marriage and inheritance. The technical side of this study is concerned with focusing on genealogical depictions, such as stories related to the beginning of creation or documenting the lineage of the Prophet, may God bless them. Peace be upon him, and the documentation of the ruling families in Islamic history, such as the Ottomans and their lineages, and many artistic features have appeared in these depictions, and there are many means of illustration in the manuscripts that work to interpret, clarify and explain the lineages, and among these methods are; Mind maps, with their components, which are ideas, keywords, the use of geometric shapes such as lines, arrows, and circles, and the use of colors and images, which had the greatest impact in clarifying and communicating information in a smooth manner. The images were distinguished by a number of features, including: The small size of the image, and the use of personal images with clear features of individuals and personalities. Also, imaginary images that were drawn and photographed from the artist’s imagination appeared, and they are of religious and historical figures in ancient times that the artist did not contemporize. Among the features that also appeared were the use of bright, symbolic colors, the use of new decoration techniques, and innovative designs for family trees, as well as wrapping text with shapes in a way that gives comfort to the eye and clarifies the ambiguous to the reader. The study concluded with results including that the idea of mental maps appeared in Islamic and Ottoman manuscripts with its elements that It had been dealt with centuries before the West knew about it and established its own science.
