The Palace of Aziza Bint Al-Sultan is considered an example of the palaces built in the city of Algiers. It constitutes the last witness to what was known as the garden and represents a testimony to what the luxurious palaces were like in the city of Algiers in the Ottoman era. This historical landmark, symbolized by its relationship with the garden, has undergone many demolitions and transformations, since the French era. This state of decline and abandonment became apparent after independence, when it witnessed many missions. Thus, restoration work was very urgent to protect this palace. The main aim of these works was to restore the original aspect of the palace. This article thus presents the authenticity of the Aziza Palace through its composition because it reflects the luxurious architecture, through its history because it summarizes the history of the entire city of Algiers, especially its relationship with Genena, which was demolished in the French era. Thus, the palace constitutes the memory of the city of Algiers. This article confirms, therefore, that the restoration of historical monuments is an essential and indispensable process, to confirm the historical, cultural and architectural passion, not only of Algiers, but of all of Algeria. This state of degradation and abandonment was accentuated, after independence, when it experienced several assignments. However, restoration work has been of great urgency for the safeguarding of this palace. These works had as their main objective the restitution of the original aspect of the palace. This article affirms, therefore, that the restoration of historical monuments is an indispensable and primordial operation, for the affirmation of the historical, cultural and architectural identity, not only of Algiers but of all Algeria.
