Notes Until the last quarter of the 19th century, imams and hatips, like other scholars, were educated in madrasahs, darülkurra and darülhadis-style educational institutions. However, after the Tanzimat period, specialized educational institutions began to be opened; Imam candidates are not trained as well as in the past; Due to reasons such as the increase in the number of unqualified imam-hatips and, as a result, the increase in complaints about the inadequacy of imams and hatips, the opening of independent schools that train only imam-hatips has been brought to the agenda. The first attempt in this regard was made in 1882 as a result of the proposals of the foundation inspector Hüseyin Tevfik Efendi. The life of this school, which was opened under the name of Menşe-i Eimme and Huteba, lasted five or six years and was closed by the decision of the Board of Directors dated February 23, 1888. However, studies dealing with the opening and development process of imam-hatip schools have never touched on Menşe-i Eimme and Huteba, and they claim that the first imam-hatip school was Medrese-i Eimme ve'l-Huteba, which was opened in 1913. In this article, the first imam-hatip school in Turkey is not Medrese-i Eimme ve'l-Huteba, which was opened in 1913; It is revealed in the light of archive documents that it is Menşe-i Eimme and Huteba, which was opened in 1882.
