Urban clusters have arisen due to man’s desire to fulfill his living needs and for protection and safety. Population increase is the cause of residential clusters in an environment suitable for living. Population increase results in a change in the form of the city’s construction, its urban fabric, its density and the functions that it performs. During this research, the urban growth witnessed by the locality of Taghsat is identified, targeting the historical stages of urban growth, which oscillated between slow growth and rapid growth since the time of the Phoenicians and Romans, through the Islamic conquest, then the Ottoman era, and the Italian era, in which Taghsat witnessed an urban boom that still exists to the present time. Taghsat has expanded in urban areas in several directions, and service institutions have appeared in it, such as educational, health, governmental, and commercial institutions. The area of the locality reached the year 1984 AD. About 307.0 hectares, and its area increased to 577.9 hectares in 2006. The rate of increase in area reached about 270.9 hectares. Urban growth trends from 1980 AD until 2018 AD and urban additions were also studied, and the most important factors that help or hinder the urban growth process were addressed. The research relied on the historical approach by tracking the stages of growth. The analytical approach was also used in determining urban growth trends using satellite visuals for the years mentioned above. The results showed that the best urban growth in Taghsat was in the western and southeastern direction, and the northern side is considered less suitable for urban growth due to the severe slope that constitutes an obstacle to it. As for the southern side, which was agricultural land with fertile soil, urbanization has encroached on most of its land, so the necessary measures must be taken to preserve what remains of it. The research recommends the necessity of issuing legislation that regulates land uses, violating those who violate them, and not granting a building permit on agricultural land. The urban environment is a complex structure rich in its composition with a mixture of natural and human phenomena. Population growth is the cause of housing in a habitable environment, resulting in the change in the shape, urban fabric, density and functions of the city. This research, will study the urban growth the locality of Tgssat are targeting the historical stages of urban growth, which has fluctuated between slow growth and accelerated growth, from the time of the Phoenicians and Romans through the Islamic conquest, then the Ottoman era, and the Italian era, in which Tgssat saw a boom. Urbanization still exists to the present, and has extended urbanizations in several directions and has emerged service institutions, such as educational institutions, health, government and commercial, and in 1984 the area of Tgssat reached about 637 hectares, and its area increased to 877.8 hectares in 5339, the increase in the area is about 270.9 hectares. As the trends of urban growth were studied from 4893 to 2018, and the urban additions, the most important factors that help or hinder the process of urban growth were addressed, and the research was based on the historical approach to tracking the stages of growth, and the analytical approach was used to determine trends of urban growth using space visuals for the aforementioned years. The results showed that the best urban growth for Tgssat was in the west and south-east, and the north side is considered less suitable for urban growth, because of the severity of the decline which is an obstacle, while the southern region, which was agricultural land with fertile soil, the urbanization marched on most of its land, so the necessary measures must be taken to preserve the rest of them. And the research recommends the need to pass legislation regulating the use of land and the violation of those who exceed it, and not to grant a license to build on agricultural land
