Notes
The Ottoman-Safavid conflict is considered one of the most important historical events in the sixteenth century AD. As a result, the shape of the Middle East region changed, and the balance of political and sectarian forces in it differed. This conflict did not only affect the parties involved in it, whether the Ottomans or the Safavids, but rather its impact extended to the Mamluk state in Egypt, so that it ended with its demise, and the transfer of the Muslim caliphate to the Ottomans after it had been in Cairo.
