Notes The nobles ruled the Hejaz since the fourth century AH/the eleventh century AD, and enjoyed a religious, social, and political status among the people of the Hejaz under the countries that ruled this region. After the entry of the Hejaz under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in the year 923 AH/1517 AD during the reign of Sultan Selim I (918-929 AH/1512-1520 AD), the Ottomans maintained the sharafa system and remained The Sherif is at the head of the political and administrative organization in Hijaz, which seemed to enjoy a kind of autonomy. The Ottoman sultans treated the Sherifs with great appreciation, lavishing them with money, turning a blind eye to many of their transgressions, and showing a great deal of flexibility towards them. This situation continued until the Saudis took control of the Hijaz in the year 1218 AH/1802 AD. The loss of the Hijaz from the Ottoman Empire was a severe blow to its prestige, so it decided to restore it and eliminate the Saudi state in any way. Therefore, Sultan Mahmoud II (1223-1255 AH/1808-1839 AD) delegated it to Muhammad Ali Pasha, the governor of Egypt. (1219-1264 AH / 1805-1848 AD) had all the powers to carry out this mission, and the governor complied with the order and was actually able to recover the Hijaz and began to administer it in the name of the Ottoman Empire since 1228 AH / 1813 AD.
