This study deals with “the role of civil society in Muhammad Ali Pasha’s accession to the rule of Egypt in the year 1805 AD.” Egyptian civil society played a major role in the early nineteenth century AD when it rallied around its popular leadership represented by Mr. Omar Makram, the captain of the nobles, and his fellow sheikhs in Muhammad Ali Pasha’s accession to the rule of Egypt in the year 1805 AD. This was done against the wishes of the Ottoman Sultan, and it was done with the desire, satisfaction, and approval of the Egyptian people and their leadership. It was proven that He has the right to choose who will rule him, and this is a precedent that has never happened before in the modern history of Egypt, showing the extent of the awareness of the Egyptian people. In the face of the desire of the Egyptians, the Ottoman Sultan was forced to issue a decree appointing Muhammad to rule Egypt. Reference was made in the study to the concepts of popular leadership and civil society, and the main axes of the study lie in the following: - The political conditions in Egypt before Muhammad took over the rule of Egypt. - The character of Muhammad Ali Pasha. - Popular leadership and Muhammad’s accession to the rule of Egypt.
