The weakness of the political, military and administrative institutions of the Ottoman state during the eleventh century AH (seventeenth century AD) led to the spread of unrest and chaos in many of its states and regions, and thus the dissolution of state authority in those states and the exploitation of a number of governors and rulers of those states and regions of those situations to tyrannize the administrative and financial affairs of their states and grant the central government in Istanbul only nominal loyalty. This research is an attempt to reveal the extent of the impact of the weakness of the Ottoman central government and the corruption of its institutions on the Hijaz, especially during the reign of the Sharif of Mecca, Zaid bin Mohsen (1041 AH / 1631 AD - 1077 AH / 1666 AD), despite the special religious, administrative and economic conditions that that region enjoyed.
