Notes
The Holy Roman Empire of the German nation was lurked by enemies from the East and enemies from the West throughout the reign of Emperor (Kaiser) Leopold I. He was doomed to spend his life surrounded by wars. In the West, his wars were with his relative, King of France Louis 1683, and fiercely defended his interests in the empire and in Spain against his arch-rival Louis XIV, and concluded a number of strategic alliances to this end. In addition to that, he managed the internal situation in his empire with pragmatism and skill. He granted the King of Brandenburg independence in the year 1700 and recognized it, so that the Kingdom of Prussia would emerge, which would play a prominent role in the history of Europe. Despite all the external dangers and internal problems, Emperor (Tsar) Leopold I was able to excel in the field of music and composition. He paid the best attention to culture, founded a number of universities, and presented the people of his empire with a large number of achievements. This was reason enough for his people to love him and immortalize him.
