Notes This study is the first step in a broad project to study rural Jordan in the Ottoman era, relying on a large and direct set of sources. We have noticed the interest of historical studies in Jordan in cities and towns, so we moved towards studying rural Jordan, whose people represent the majority of Jordan’s population, and the countryside constitutes the main source of economic life based on agriculture. We chose the village of Al-Sarih in the Ottoman era as a model, because it is a village based on agriculture and extensive information is available about it in Ottoman sources, and we focused on land ownership, debts and real estate, to record the lifestyle. In the Jordanian countryside during the Ottoman era.
