Urban clusters have arisen out of human desire to fulfill their living needs, and for protection and security. Population increase is the cause of residential clusters in an environment suitable for living. Population increase results in a change in the form of the city’s construction, its urban fabric, its density, and the functions it performs. During this research, the urban growth witnessed by the locality of Taghsat is identified, targeting the historical stages of urban growth, which oscillated between slow growth and rapid growth, from the time of the Phoenicians and Romans, through the Islamic conquest, then the Ottoman era and the Italian era, in which Taghsat witnessed an urban boom that is still present. Taghsat has expanded in urban areas in several directions, and service institutions appeared in it, such as educational, health, governmental, and commercial institutions. The area of the locality reached the year 1984 AD. About 307.0 hectares, and its area increased to 577.9 hectares in 2006, and the rate of increase in area reached about 270.9 hectares. Urban growth trends were also studied from the year 1980 AD until 2018 AD, and urban additions, and the most important factors that help or hinder the urban growth process were addressed. The research relied on the historical approach by tracking the stages of growth, and the analytical approach was also used in determining urban growth trends using satellite visuals for the years mentioned above. The results showed that the best urban growth in Taghsat was in the western and southeastern direction, and the northern side is considered less suitable for urban growth, due to the severe slope that constitutes an obstacle to it. As for the southern side, which was agricultural land with fertile soil, urbanization has encroached on most of its land, so the necessary measures must be taken to preserve what remains of it. The research recommends the necessity of issuing legislation that regulates land uses, violating those who violate them, and not granting a building permit on agricultural land.
