Notes This study discusses some images of the relations between Algeria and the Austrian Empire, which had relations of war and peace with the Ottoman Empire. Since Algeria was an Ottoman province, these relations were reflected in Algeria, and the beginning in particular occurred in the year 1717 AD, in which the Treaty of Psarowitz was concluded, one of whose articles indicated Algeria’s commitment to this treaty, as well as the provinces of Tunis and Tripoli (Libya). I thought it would be more appropriate to shed light on the state of Austria in a historical overview of it until the year 1748 AD, then I touched on the Austrian-Ottoman relations and their repercussions on the Algerian-Austrian relations. After that, I addressed the circumstances of the conclusion of the two treaties that Algeria concluded with Austria, the first in 1727 AD and the second in 1748 AD, and an analysis of their provisions. Then I touched on the Austrian consular presence in Algeria, which began in the year 1748 AD. The aim of this study is to shed light on some images of the relations between Algeria and the Empire of Austria during the modern era, especially since studies on this subject do not exist at all in the Arabic language, and even in foreign languages, they are rare to my knowledge, with the exception of an academic study issued by the University of Vienna dealing with Austria’s relations with the Maghreb countries. The research problem focuses on addressing two aspects of Algerian-Austrian relations, namely the treaties of 1727 and 1748 AD, and the Austrian consular presence in Algeria. As for the approach followed, in preparing this research I relied on the historical approach in applying the chronology of historical events, extrapolating and analyzing historical documents and texts, and extracting historical events and information. As for the most important findings that I reached, it is that Algerian-Austrian relations began late during the first quarter of the 18th century, compared to other European countries. Moreover, relations were not in the same manner despite the conclusion of the two treaties, but were in a state of tension after the year 1764 AD, when Austrian diplomatic representation in Algeria decreased. As for the recommendations, I say that the issue of Algerian-Austrian relations requires further research in other aspects, including: naval confrontations, spoils, the issue of imperial prisoners, procedures for liberating them, and gifts. This study deals with some manifestations of the relations between the regency of Algiers and the Austrian empire, which had relations of war and peace with the ottoman empire. and since Algiers was an ottoman province, those relations had an impact on Algiers. In the treaty of Passaro Vitz 1717, one of its articles referred to Algiers’s commitment to this treaty, as well as the province of Tunis and Tripoli. I start off by giving a historical overview of the state of Austria until 1748. then I touch on the Austrian-Ottoman relations and their repercussions on the Algerian-Austrian relations; after that I deal with the circumstances of the two treaties concluded between Algiers with Austria in 1727 and 1748, and the analysis of their clauses, and then I touch on the Austrian consular presence in Algiers, which began in the year 1748. the aim of this study is to shed light on some of the manifestations of the relations between the regency of Algiers and the empire of Austria during the modern era. In this study, I rely on the historical method by falling back on the chronology of historical events, extrapolating and analyzing historical documents and texts, and deducing historical events and information. As for the most important findings, the study shows that Algerian-Austrian relations began late during the first quarter of the 18th century, compared with other European countries. these relations were not on the same pattern despite the conclusion of the two treaties; Rather, they were tense after the year 1764, when the Austrian diplomatic representation in Algiers diminished. As for the recommendations, the issue of Algerian-Austrian relations requires more research on other aspects, including maritime clashes, loot, the issue of imperial captives, and the procedures for their release and gifts.
