Italian colonial activity began on the western Red Sea coast of Africa through missionaries and geographical explorers, as the monk Sabito reached an area in Somalia and established a missionary center. After his return to Italy, he sought to encourage the Italian government to occupy the region, which prompted the government to commission the Rubatino Company to purchase the lands of Assab, which was part of the expansionist goals that Italy was seeking to implement. Britain initially opposed the Italian colonial project and considered the Italian occupation of Assab a violation of the Egyptian government’s right to sovereignty over the region under the Ottoman Empire. Through this position, Britain was aiming to obtain support from the Egyptian government in its campaign against Abyssinia. But because of the strategic and economic importance of the region, the inability of the Egyptian government to impose its authority over the region, the growing French-British conflict over East Africa, and because Britain, after the occupation of Egypt, fell under the influence of the national resistance in Sudan, Britain was forced to support Italian colonial activity on the western coast of the Red Sea to obtain Italian support in Sudan. The research was divided into three sections, the first section dealt with the early stages of the Italian colonial project, the second section studied the international rejection of the Italian colonial project, and the third section dealt with Britain’s support for the Italian colonial project. The Italian colonizing activity started at the western coast of the Red Sea in Africa by the missionaries and geographical explorers, where the monch spiato reached Assab and an erect missionary centre. And after his return to Italy he encouraged his government to occupy the region which made the government heir Robatino company to purchase Assab lands, which was part of colonizing goals which Italy sought. The British government opposes the Italian colonizing project at the beginning and consider this action passing to the Egyptian authority under the Ottoman colonizing where Britain by this stance sought Egyptian support in its invasion to Ethiopia. But as a result of the strategic and economical importance and the incapability of the Egyptian authority to control the area and for the growing of the French-British conflict on east Africa and for the patriotic resistance in Sudan against Britain. Britain was enforced to support Italian in this action at the western coast of the Red Sea to get the Italian support and to get a clear image of the historical event we divided the thesis to three inquiries. The first tackled the beginning of the Italian colonizing project, the second studied the global rejection of the Italian project and the third tackled the British support to the Italian colonizing project.
