Notes
This study, entitled “The Ottoman Efforts to Support the Moriscos in Andalusia,” aims to get to know the Moriscos and their conditions, especially after the fall of Granada in Andalusia, and the motives that led to their expulsion from Spain, then the position of the Ottoman Empire towards them before that, represented by preparing military campaigns to invade the southern Spanish coasts, offering diplomatic mediations with some European countries, then knowing the Ottoman position towards them after the implementation of the final expulsion decision, and the Ottomans’ efforts to facilitate Transporting them to the Islamic Maghreb. The study concluded by clarifying several points: the most important of which is the failure of Spanish policy to implement the Christianization decision against the Muslims of Andalusia, despite the inhumane practices of the Inquisition against Muslims. With the deterioration of their living conditions, the Moriscos found their safe haven and only salvation from torment and murder in the Ottoman Empire, which did not disappoint their hopes, but its efforts were not crowned with success due to external conspiracies and internal intrigues that limited the influence of the Ottoman Empire in the Morisco issue.
