The textile industry has been known in Mesopotamia since ancient times, as clothing was one of the basic requirements of the Sumerians, along with their needs for housing and other life requirements. However, there is a lack of historical documentation about the development of the textile industry in its various stages. It made it an unimportant profession in the country, after which there were references in which the textile industry appeared in the fifteenth century AD, and at the beginning of the seventeenth century, until its activity in the 1830s, then government interest in it, whether during the period of Ottoman rule or national rule, until 1964.
