Notes This research was concerned with studying the Ottoman rule in Yemen in two historical periods. The first period is from the beginning of the sixteenth century (1538 - 1635 AD). The second period is in the second half of the nineteenth century (1872 - 1918). The first period: (1538 - 1635 AD). The Ottomans ruled Yemen, and this was due to the weakness of the Mamluk power in Yemen, which quickly recognized Ottoman sovereignty. That stage began during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Selim the Magnificent, and the purpose of that stage was to occupy Yemen and expand the Ottoman Empire. During that period, the first Ottoman campaign against Yemen took place. This campaign began in Muharram 1538 AD and was led by Suleiman, but it failed and the issue of the survival of the Ottoman authority in Yemen became difficult. The Ottomans withdrew from Yemen in 1635 AD due to the weakness of the personality of its leader, Suleiman Pasha. The second period of Ottoman rule in Yemen (1872 - 1918) was led by Ahmed Mukhtar Pasha. He was able to enter Sana’a without war in the year 1289/1872. This stage was divided into several points: First: the period of expansion and construction 1289 - 1307 AH (1872 - 1889 AD). It lasted twenty years, and that period focused on establishing the necessary projects and basic services, the most important of which were the post, the telegraph, schools, roads, etc. Second: The period of rebellion and resistance (1889 - 1904). This period was from the beginning of the appearance of Imam Al-Mansur Billah Muhammad bin Yahya Hamid Al-Din in the year 1307 AH / 1889, and the Yemenis were able to besiege Sana’a, the capital of the Ottoman state in Yemen. Third: The period of Imam Yahya’s rule and the position of the Ottomans regarding the peace treaty he established. Imam Yahya sent a leaflet to the various regions of Yemen explaining what was required of the areas under Ottoman rule. The position of the Ottomans in Yemen following the peace of Imam Yahya went through two phases: the first was great hostility, then the peace was in 1329 AH - 1911 AD. Then the second phase began, where relations were strong and characterized by peace between the two parties, and relations existed in all fields.
