Notes The sprawling brood during the Ottoman period and the beginning of the occupation witnessed a field for tribal formations and alliances imposed by the nature of the tribal society and its composition in the region and its relations with the authorities that succeeded in the region. The historical circumstances that these tribal formations faced led to the emergence of some tribal divisions that transformed over time into sometimes hostile and sometimes allied ranks. What is the nature of tribal society in Hodna, how were the tribal ranks formed in its field, and what is the nature of the relationship it had with political authority and spiritual authority in the region? That is what we are trying to answer in this historical contribution in the light of some local and foreign archival documents.
