Notes This study deals with the important developments that occurred in Palestine at the end of the rule of the Ottoman Empire. The focus of these developments was the Palestinian farmer, as the farmers constituted more than two-thirds of the population, and they faced many obstacles and problems, starting with the tyranny of feudal lords and large landowners. Among the difficult economic conditions, including the heavy taxes imposed by the Ottoman Empire, as well as Jewish immigration to Palestine; The Jewish immigrants aspired to control the lands of Palestine in general, and the agricultural lands of farmers in particular. The Palestinian farmer found himself alone in facing all these challenges. The study also addresses the position of the Ottoman Empire on Jewish immigration to Palestine, the farmers’ resistance to early migrations, and the Jews’ control over the farmers’ lands.
