Notes This research paper deals with an important source of Algerian history during the Ottoman period, namely the memoirs of Hajj Ahmed Al-Sharif Al-Zahar, a chief of supervision in the city of Algiers, which dates the last stage of the Ottoman presence in Algeria and the beginning of the French occupation. The importance of this study lies in the fact that its author is considered an eyewitness to historical events and facts due to the social status he enjoyed among Algerian society as the head of the Nobility Syndicate in Algeria, as well as the administrative positions that were assigned to him and that helped him in transmitting historical events. This book was an honest mirror that removed the ambiguity about the reality of the Ottoman presence in Algeria during its last period. Through this research paper, we will try to introduce its authors, examine its content, know his approach to writing, and mention some general observations about it, as well as show its importance in relation to modern Algerian history.
