Notes With the abolition of the Regime Administration in 1925, a new era began in the tobacco field in the Republic of Türkiye. With the proclamation of the Republic in 1923, nationalization policies gained momentum. One of the areas where the nationalization policy was implemented was the tobacco economy. Urfa was one of the provinces where the nationalization policy was implemented in the tobacco economy. Tobacco, which was under the control of the Regi Administration between 1883 and 1925, came under the control of the Urfa İnhisarlar Tobacco Workshop Directorate, which is affiliated with the General Directorate of Monopolies, which can be described as a state monopoly, between 1925 and 1950. In this context, this study will discuss the establishment process of the directorate, its historical development, and informal economy activities in the tobacco and cigarette sector. In addition, the fight against smuggling of the Urfa Monopolies Administration Tobacco Workshop, which served in the first years of the Republic, and its reflections on the economy will be evaluated in the light of statistical data. While examining the issue, its contribution to the treasury was tried to be evaluated by taking into account the developments in smuggling activities in tobacco, which was transferred from the Regime Administration to the state monopoly. Prime Ministry Republic Archive, Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive, Turkish Grand National Assembly Minutes, Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey, local press, written books, theses and articles were used as sources in the study. In addition, the fight against smuggling of the Urfa Monopoly Tobacco Workshop, which served in the first years of the Republic, and its reflections on the economy will be evaluated in the light of statistical data. While examining the subject, it has been tried to evaluate its contribution to the treasury by considering the developments in smuggling activities in tobacco, which has passed from the Regime Administration to the state monopoly. In the study, Prime Ministry Republican Archive, Prime Ministry Ottoman Archive, Turkish Grand National Assembly Minutes, Official Gazette of the Republic of Turkey, local media organs, written books, theses and articles were used.
