Notes
Since its association with the Sublime Porte in 1520, Algeria witnessed the influx of batches of the Janissary army from various Ottoman regions, and its primary mission was to protect the province from external dangers and ensure the establishment of security in the region. In addition to this pivotal mission, the Janissaries carried out other tasks in the city of Algiers, such as owning real estate and disposing of it in various types of transactions, including endowments, which is the subject of our intervention, where we will focus on their contribution to the endowments of the Two Holy Mosques, while examining the nature of their properties inside and outside the walls of the city of Algiers, and knowing the ranks that contributed to this charitable practice.
