Notes
The Ubykhs are one of the most important indigenous tribes of the northwest Caucasus and have a long history. They were characterized by special language features and a cultural, social, economic and political legacy. Despite their distinction from the rest of the Caucasian tribes, their ethnic and ethnographic connection to the rest of the Caucasian people and their ancient Hittite language has been proven. Despite the presence of linguistic and natural barriers, the Ubykhs are an integral part of the Caucasus region. Their people were able to confront the Russian invasion of their lands, like the rest of the Caucasus tribes, to defend their existence, their freedom, and their right to build their independent state. However, they were unable to resist the great Russian military advance that they achieved over all the lands that belonged to Persia and the Ottoman Empire. They ended the resistance of the Murid movement in the northeastern Caucasus, so the Russians were left with nothing but the weak resistance of the tribes of the northwestern Caucasus led by the Ubykhs after Russia was able to eliminate all resistance movements in the Caucasus and Britain and the state were abandoned. The Ottoman Empire expressed its promises to support the establishment of the state of Circassia in the northwestern Caucasus. The research was based on the integrated historical approach based on presenting the historical material, linking it objectively, taking into account the use of the descriptive method and analysis of events, at both the political and military levels in the Ubykh tribal region in the Caucasus, as well as showing its historical and geographical importance and analyzing the reasons for the weakness of the Ubykh resistance despite the courage and sacrifice made by its people in the face of the Russian military advance, because of its great impact on the factors The basic conflict, which required a return to its historical depth to facilitate the process of understanding the causes of the clash between the Ubykh local governments in the Caucasus and the Russians, as the Russians sought to achieve their desired goals of achieving complete control over the most important coast overlooking the Black Sea, which is economically and commercially rich.
