Notes
Tâhir Harîmî Balcıoğlu (d. 1951), who was born in the last periods of the Ottoman Empire and lived in the first years of the Republic, wrote a work to explain the history of religious sciences and completed this work, which he called the History of Narrated Sciences, in more than ten years. Although the author's most famous work, Libraries in Historical Civilization, was published quite early, in 1931, it was necessary to wait until 2022 for the publication of the History of Narrated Sciences. The work, consisting of an introduction and six chapters, deals with the history of the Quran/Tafsir, Hadith, Fiqh and Kalam sciences. When it comes to the distribution of the chapters, it is seen that more than half of the work is devoted to the history of theology. But what the author means by the history of theology is actually the history of sects. Because in this chapter, the sects and sects that emerged from the Islamic society are discussed, and the science of kalam is briefly included at the end of the chapter. When evaluated in the context of the period and region in which it was written, the work; It is very valuable due to the variety of subjects it contains and its rich bibliography, and it is also important because it shows the accumulation of knowledge about Islamic sciences in the first years of the Republic.
