Notes Although much has been written about the history of the Ottomans in the Arab countries, their presence in some of these countries was of a special nature. The Ottoman presence in the western province of Tripoli was distinct from what it was in many other countries. This research attempts to shed some light on the period of the Ottoman presence in Western Tripoli, which extended for about three hundred and sixty years (958 - 1330 AH / 1551 - 1912 AD) and explain the impact of this presence in changing the societal structure with the presence of new elements in it with a distinct presence, and in arranging the political and civilizational conditions, especially at the level of the relationship between society and the state. How did this relationship arise? How did it crystallize? How did it culminate in the existence of what could be considered a state in the political and civilizational sense? The research focuses on reviewing the aspects of the mutual cultural influence of the Ottoman presence in Tripoli and its environs. It also highlights the nature of the relationship that was formed between society and the state under this presence, and reveals the aspects of this relationship and the features of its distinction and development, especially with regard to the idea of the Arab Ottoman identity and its dialectics that developed in a controversial way with other theses, those that see the Ottoman presence in the Arab countries as a traditional sign of military occupation and political colonialism, which may contradict, of course, with a group of Considerations and facts that are absent between the lines, some of which this research attempted to clarify and clarify. The research ends with a set of political and civilizational considerations that, over time, had a profound positive impact on the structure of both society and the state from the beginning of the Ottoman presence in that country until its departure in 1330 AH/1912 AD. For this purpose, the research used a group of sources and references that dealt with that period through historical study. The research attempted to extract what it wanted to achieve from between the lines and pages of those sources.
