Astronomical Handbook in Ten

(أبواب), each subdivided into
fuṣūl
(Fusul) in the tradition of Abū al-Wafāʾ al-Būzjanī and his colleagues at the Bāb al-Tibn Observatory in Baghdad (Abu al-Wafaʾ al-Buzjanī, d. 998, see f. 52v, line 3). The incipit also mentions the earlier work carried out under the caliph al-Ma'mūn (al-Ma'mun, reg. 813-33), and the attempt by the author of
al-Zīj al-ʻAlāʼī
to pass al-Būzjānī's observational data off as his own
The present text is identical with the first ten
bāb
s of a
zīj
attributed to al-Mufaḍḍal ibn ʿUmar al-Abharī (Athīr al-Dīn Mufaḍl ibn ʿUmar al-Abharī, d. 1265; see, e.g., Dublin, Chester Beatty Library, Ar 4076), although the present manuscript lacks the tables.
The text is followed by two pages (f. 67v-68r) of verse in Persian, in a different hand, beginning:
Jawaje Dryab Ke Jan Dar Tan Insan Adbst
Khawaja Anwar Dil Wadide Mardan Adbst
Begins (f. 52v, lines 2-7):
Praise be to Allah for the verse and thank you for the manifestation of grace
and thankfully liked his pride and original on Muhammad Khair Rasle and his prophets and after the world
Zij waz'ate on the recipient of the authentic middle of Shaykh Abu al-Wafa' Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Buzjani
And the Companions passed through them after the arrival of the believers
The words of Mr. Al-Alai, the plaintiff of the Justice Department, are attached to him
