A versification by ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAṣr (Abd al-Rahman Ibn Asr, fl. 16th century) of
al-Maṭlab fī al-ʿamal bi-al-rubʿ al-mujayyab
(The requirement in working with the answerable quarter) in twenty chapters (Chapter) by Badr al-Dīn Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Shāfi‘ī al-Miṣrī al-Dimashqī (Badr al-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Shafi’i al-Masri al-Dimashqi, b. 1423, d. 1490), known as Sibṭ al-Māridīnī (Tribe of al-Māridīnī), timekeeper (timekeeper) of the al-Azhar Mosque at Cairo (see f. 41r, lines 12-13).

Beginnings (f. 41r, lines 2-6):
Ibn Asr, who is Abdul Rahman, said
May God reward him with forgiveness
Praise be to God, who has justified and bestowed His blessings upon His creation
He explained ideas and concepts with his light so that you could understand the sciences
The mysterious was explained with proof after it had obscured the minds
Ends (f. 47v, lines 1-3):
From the rising of sunrise, the rest of your dark night will come true
So look at your portion of dawn and what remains, and if they are equal, then you will know
Intermediating for this is necessary for dawn, and God Almighty knows best

The year ninety-six passed after nine hundred has been completed
Praise be to God for obtaining the blessings and prayers upon our Prophet
Muhammad, his family and companions as long as the stars revolve around the pole
It was completed with the praise of God and His good help, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our master and master Muhammad and his family and companions and grant him peace. Our last supplication is that praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
