Notes Arabic version of The medical materia (Περὶ ὕλης ἰατρικῆς; Kitāb mawādd al-‘ilāj ), by Pedanius Dioscorides (Πεδάνιος Διοσκουρίδης, Dioscorides; ca AD 40- ca 90) of Anazarbus (modern Anavarza in south-central Turkey). This copy was completed at Baghdad on 10 Rabī‘ I 735/8 November 1334 (see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. on f. 181r, transcribed below). Contents: Book 3 (Third Article; ff. 2r-115v); Book 4 (Article IV; ff. 116v-181r). Begins (f. 2r, lines 1-3): It is straight and the penis is round and does not have layers, but rather it is one thing Both of them are similar in taste, as they appear at first, but it is found in their taste The sweetness of the fruit later changes its taste, containing some bitterness... Ends (f. 181r, lines 5-8): Skorkodas It is the tail of the scorpion and is called Samarioma. It is a leafy plant It is small and has a seed similar to a scorpion's tail, and this seed, if it sticks, is beneficial Stung by scorpions Colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text.
