Notes A manual on dietetics for treating patients by Najīb al-Dīn Abū Ḥāmid Muḥammad ibn ‘Alī ibn ‘Umar al-Samarqandī (Najib al-Din Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Umar al-Samarqandi, d. 1222). Begins (f. 126v, lines 3-4): Praise be to God who created the disease and created the cure, and peace be upon His servants whom He has chosen specifically Upon our master and beloved Muhammad al-Mujtaba and his Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, as long as the earth and heaven exist. Ends (f. 140r, lines 10-20): Constitutions on foods for the sick and for the world on the nature of foods There is room and space to combine them and extract from them what is compatible with each disease Partial diseases, tumors, pimples, adornments, every mood and every condition Of the conditions of the body, a time of the year, and a tooth of the teeth when it prevails Every mixture of mixtures, may God Almighty guide us to what is most beneficial and most beneficial And He ended our intentions to the most sincere intentions and our deeds to the best deeds.
