Treatise on the prevention and cure of plague by the Ottoman polymath ʿIṣām al-Dīn Abū al-Khayr Aḥmad ibn Muṣliḥ al-Dīn Muṣṭafá Ṭāshkubrīʹzādah (Essam al-Din Abu al-Khair Ahmad bin Muslih al-Din Mustafa Tashkbarizadeh, Taşköprīzāde, d. 1561).
The text is divided into the following sections, of which all but the conclusion are further subdivided into problems (demands):
Introduction (Introduction, ff. 3v-15r);
First Course of Action (1st Course, ff. 15r-19v);
Second Course of Action (ff. 19v-21v);
Conclusion (Conclusion, ff. 21v-25r);
Addendum (Cantation, ff. 25r-63r).
Spaces are left blank for diagrams (magic squares) on ff. 46v, 47r, 49v and 61v.
The text is followed by notes, mostly on medical, in Arabic and Turkish and poetry in Turkish (ff. 63v-74v).
There are three blank unfoliated leaves between ff. 71 and 72.
Begins (f. 3v, lines 1-3):
Praise be to God, the King, exalted and unique in greatness and majesty, destined for sustenance
And the deadlines, the way things are, the turning points, and the prayer
Peace be upon the Master of the Masters of Perfection...
Ends (f. 63r, lines 8-18):
...Ibn Abi Hajlah said he died there
On the Moroccan side is half the world or more or more
Twenty thousand people live in Cairo every day
One hundred and eighty-three hundred occurred
There is a plague in Egypt, the likes of which has not occurred after nine years
Forty-seven hundred of these plagues
Bones, otherwise there are more bones
Who is this, and God knows best what is right
