Notes	The Canon of Medicine (Law in Medicine) by Abū ‘Alī al-Ḥusayn ibn ‘Abd Allāh (Abu Ali Al-Hussein bin Abdullah), known as Ibn Sīnā (Avicenna, latinised as Avicenna, 980-1037). This complete copy of one of the most influential Arabic medical texts is richly illuminated, decorated and bound in Safavid Persian style. The copy was completed on 4 Shawwāl 1069/25 June 1659 by Kulayb ‘Utbat Imām al-Sādis Muḥammad Ṣādiq ibn Muḥammad Husayn al-Tabrīzī (clip of Utbat Imām al-Sīth Muhammad Sadiq ibn Muhammad Husayn al-Tabrizi, see colophon Section at the end of a manuscript text. f. 645r, lines 7-8, transcribed below). The title page (f. 1r) is heavily gilt, and earlier inscriptions are visible below the gold. Folios 1v-14r contain a detailed table of contents, and begins with illuminated frontispiece. Lavishly illuminated frontispieces are found at the beginning of each book (ff. 15v-16r, 103v-104r, 202v, 445v-446r and 592v) at incipit of text. The outer margin of f. 525, that previously bore a seal impression (as evidenced by the ink smudge on the facing page [f. 524v]) had been severed. The fore edge, top and tail are illuminated in gold.
