Notes
A short, untitled treatise on the properties and uses of the letters and associated magical practices. The treatise is attributed to Abū al-Ḥasan al-Ḥarālī, who may be identical with the author of works on astronomical instruments Abū al-Ḥasan (or al-Ḥasan ibn) ‘Alī ibn’ Umar al-Marrākūshī (d. ca 660 AH/AD 1262).
The text has been written vertically on the folios, and the folios are in reverse order. The foliation has been reversed to account for the direction of the text.
Begins (f. 105v, lines 2-3):
Sheikh Abu Al-Hasan Al-Harali said: You asked me about the letters, their nature, and the aspects of their benefits, so know that this is taken into account.
It is taken (!) from the ranks of the letters on which knowledge of their character is built and the aspects of their benefits arise from that...
Ends (f. 108v, lines 8-10):
...a stone of
Take care of a mule and place it under the table on the part of someone who does not want to eat, and that will be the case. The heart and liver of a weasel
Tie them to a camel skin and hang it on the scribe, for he will make a mistake in his calculations and make a mistake
