An elaborate presentation copy of Īwānīs al-Mukhtār ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʻAbdūn ibn Saʻdūn’s (Iwanis al-Mukhtar ibn al-Hasan ibn Abdun ibn Sa’dun, known as Ibn Buṭlān [Ibn Batlan], d. ca 1068) book on dietary medicine produced for Saladin’s (Saladin al-Ayyubi; d. 1193) son, al-Malik al-Ẓāhir (Al-Malik al-Zahir; d. 1216), King of Aleppo. The title page (f. 1r, lines 3-8) bears the title and author in the upper frame and, in the lower frame, the dedication of this copy:
He served in the treasury of Maulana Sultan Al-Sayyid for a long time
The apparent king, the scholar, the just and the warrior
Al-Murabit Al-Mathaghir is the riches of the world, and religion is king
Islam and Muslims are the master of kings and sultans, my father
