Treatise on the use of the horizon plate (Al-Afqiyah) by ‘Alī ibn ‘Īsá al-Asṭurlābī (Ali ibn Isa Al-Astrlabi; fl. 829-833).
Text is defective at the end.
Beginnings (f. 105r, lines 3-6):
...The first thing to do is to know the tendency
If you want to know the slope of this plate, turn the plate and see the degree
Which you want to tilt, if there is less than a degree between it and the first degree of the pregnancy
So work with it, and if it increases to a waqf, then decrease it by a waqf and work with what remains...
Ends (f. 107v, lines 14-19):
...Knowing the risings of the zodiac in straight astronomy if you want
So place the head of that sign whose ascending you want to know according to straight astronomy
On the diameter of the plate, whichever diameter you like, he marked the one who looked at the parts and then looked at that
The tower to the end of that diameter, then see how much the parts have been measured by its position
Whatever happened is the rising of that sign according to straight astronomy.
