Notes
A treatise on hippiatrics, discussing their good and bad points, training, diseases and treatment. The text is an abridgement of the
Kitāb al-furūsīyah wa-l-bayṭarah
(Book of Horsemanship and Veterinary) by Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb Ibn Akhī Ḥizām (Muhammad ibn Yaqoub ibn Akhī Hizām; see British Library, Add. MS 23416). This abridgement is attributed to Abū Muḥammad Aḥmad ibn ‘Atīq al-Azdī (Abu Muhammad Ahmad ibn Atīq al-Azdī; see ff. 1r, 1v and 111r where he is called Abū Aḥmad [Abu Ahmad]).
The text contains two illustrations. The first (ff. 22v-23r) labels the horse's good points; the second (ff. 62v-63r) its defects. On f. 110v appear two amuletic squares for the treatment of 'rupture'.

The venerable Sheikh Ahmed bin Atiq Al-Azdi said
Praise be to God, the Creator of creation without example and the Originator of things
Other forms of praise are innovators, more believers, and their monotheism is authenticated

Sheikh Abu Ahmed said: This is what I found
Of medicines and treatments, they are based on the Sunnah
The Indian and Roman sages and what we adhered to from chivalry
And its machines, and God grants success, I trust in Him and there is no power
There is no power except in God Almighty
