Treatise on the use of sand-clocks (Menkam, pl. Menakim) by the Egyptian mathematician and astronomer Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Fatḥ ibn ‘Īsá ibn Aḥmad al-Ṣūfī al-Miṣrī (Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Abi al-Fath ibn Isa ibn al-Sufi al-Misri, fl. late 15th-early 16th century; see f. 125v, lines 2-3). The text is divided into 5 short chapters (sections), an introduction (introduction) and a long conclusion (conclusion).
The treatise contains six diagrams (ff. 122v and 123r) and one table (124v).
This text is followed (ff. 125v, line 4-127r) by a description of a sand-clock called the
tarjihar
(Targhar) extracted from
Kitāb minhaj al-ṭullāb fī ‘amal al-aṣṭurlāb
(Book of Student Methodology in Astrolabe Work) by the Yemini Rasulid sultan al-Malik al-Ashraf ‘Umar ibn Yūsuf ibn ‘Umar ibn ‘Alī ibn Rasūl (King Al-Ashraf Omar ibn Ali ibn Rasūl; d. 1296).
