A treatise on arithmetic and algebra by Abū al-‘Alā’ Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Bihishtī al-Isfarā’aynī (Abu al-Ala Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Bahshti al-Isfarāni; d. 749 AH/AD 1348-49), known as Fakhr-i Khurāsān (Pride of Khorasan). The text is divided into two parts (two articles); Part One (ff. 2v, line 8-20r, line 10) concerns arithmetic and Part Two (ff. 20r, line 10-24r) algebra.
The lower half of f. 24r and the whole of f. 24v are covered by extracts of poetry by al-Mutanabbī (Al-Mutanabbi; d. 965) and others.
Begins (f. 14v, lines 2-4):
Praise be to God, the Creator of the ones, the author of the numbers, and the divider of them into souls
And the free, and may blessings be upon his Messenger, Muhammad, the Best of servants, and upon his family
Those described as righteous and its companions who removed corruption from the earth
Ends (f. 24r, lines 3-5):
...then multiply by three
Twelve and divide it by seven to produce five and seven, which is what passed from the night
The rest of it is six hours and seven-sevenths of an hour, which is what is required...
