Short epistle on the return of the soul by Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh (Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abdullah), known as Ibn Sīnā (Ibn Sina, latinised as Avicenna, d. 1037) addressed according to the title in the present copy to his student Abū ʿUbayd ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Muḥammad al-Jūzjānī (Abu Ubaid Abd al-Wahid ibn Muhammad al-Jawzjani), thought to have originally been addressed to his other student, Abū al-Ḥasan Bahmanyār ibn al-Marzubān (Abu al-Hasan Bahmnyār ibn al-Marzban, d. 1066). The text is also known as
The Return Concerning the Soul and Faith
(Returning to the matter of self and overflow) and
That Which is Able to Be
(possible existence).
