Notes
A collection of fifteen or more extracts taken from Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī’s (AD 1149/50-1210)
Kitāb al-Mulakhkhaṣ fī al-falsafah
. The extracts all deal with physics, and cover such subjects as ‘that movement is either caused by fleeing what is unnatural or seeking what is natural’ (f. 67v, line 17 - fol. 68r, line 4), ‘that moisture repels heat’ (f. 68r, lines 4 - 11), and ‘that the celestial sphere is neither moist nor dry’ (f. 68r, lines 12 - 14).
Beginnings (f. 67v, lines 15 - 19):
...these chapters
In Selected Benefits from the Essays on the Essence and Symptoms of Natural Nature from the Book of Summary
Imam al-Tamam Fakhr al-Millah al-Din al-Razi, may God have mercy on him, has a chapter on the fact that movement is due to flight
From what is unnatural or because of the natural demand of the second right, otherwise it would not be a movement to one side rather than to another side
In the sections of forced movement, but in the Ayna it may be out of character only, like the movement of a stone off the face of the earth
Ends (f. 76v, lines 16-19):
The occurrence of this type was necessary, so the occurrence of these types generates attachment
With possible things and what is related to the possible is possible, so the occurrence of these types is possible and also generation
There is no exclusion in the occurrence of industrial matters either by agreement or by a force that benefits them
If we allow this in the sentence, let this be the last of our words in researching the conditions of bodies
Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and blessings be upon the Messenger of God, Muhammad
And his family and companions (sic)
