Notes Commentary by Jawād ibn Saʿd ibn Jawād al-Kāẓimī (Jawad bin Saad bin Jawad Al-Kazimi, d. ca 1654-5 [see al-Amīn, A‘yān al-shī‘ah , vol. 4, p. 271]) on the Summa of Arithmetic (Summary of the account) by his teacher Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-‘Āmilī (Bahā al-Din Muhammad ibn Husayn al-Amili; d. 1621). The text contains numerous diagrams. Begins (f. 1v, lines 2-4): Praise be to God, the One, the Great, the One and Only, the One and Only, whose signs fall short of counting, and whose blessings are impossible for the passerby (?) to count. May blessings and peace be upon the Master of His Prophets, who is perfected with the highest level of perfection, and on his family who are The best of all prayers is its successive prayer, which takes care of the morning and the afternoon. As for what follows, the least of the servants says Jawad bin Saad bin Jawad... Ends (f. 168v, lines 11-13): End of what is required? Let us stop talking, praising God for His success and guidance, not the straightness of His path, and I also [advise] you. O brother, what do I recommend to the author? For in this explanation there are precious things that must be protected from those who do not belong to them, and praise be to God alone. And blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet and his family, the righteous, the righteous, the pure, as long as night and day disappear...
